More Information

Rental Cars

The Kona area has major vehicle rental car companies represented and most are located adjacent to the Kona Airport. The rental agencies offer free shuttle bus service from a stand across the street from the Baggage Claim area. Actual drive time from shuttle bus departure to arrival is a few minutes as the location is on airport property. However is it suggested that you allow appropriate time.

Rideshare

Uber and Lyft are available on Hawaiʻi Island, especially in Kona and Hilo, but service can be limited and wait times may be longer outside the main population centers.

Taxis & Limos

There are a number of limousine and taxi companies available for travel between the airport and your accommodations. Your resort may have a preference so always check with them.

Gas

Hawaiʻi Island does not have as many private, low-cost gas stations as some visitors may be familiar with on the mainland.

Gas prices can vary, and lower-priced fuel options may not always be convenient depending on where you are traveling. Because our island is both rural and quite large, it is a good idea to make sure you have enough fuel for your plans. In some areas, you may find yourself driving 30 minutes or more to the next station.
